Invitation to a Public Meeting on Housing Intensification

Invitation to a Public Meeting On Housing Intensification

(Government-driven Housing Legislation – NPSUD and MDRS)

When:  This Sunday 31st July 3pm

Where:  Saint Mathews in the City (corner Wellesley & Hobson Sts)

Parking:  there is plenty of parking around the area, especially on Sunday afternoon.  The Aotea Carpark is within walking distance from just down the road; we encourage you to carpool.

Why attend:

This is intended to be the largest public meeting so far on this issue.  There will be MPs present from the 4 main parties:  Labour, National, the Greens and Act – and an opportunity to ask them questions directly.

Media will be present and we want to make sure that they lift the profile of this issue.

This means we need a full venue – up to 500 people.

The meeting will be focused.  There will be information provided and updates, short statements from a representative from each party, then focused questions and answers.  Expect to be away by 5pm.  The meeting will be effectively chaired, focused especially on concerns to do with: citywide medium density zoning, why? Loss of Auckland’s heritage and special character, severe effects on the amenity of neighbouring homes-loss of sunshine, privacy and peace & quiet, views lost, property values badly affected. Effects on infrastructure (traffic, parking, stormwater, sewage, power.), finances –, stressed services, climate change effects from shaded homes, less green space, increased travel times, and more low-quality unsustainable development…

What you can do:

Be there.  Organise others from your street and community to come with you.  If you are walking by all means have a placard or sign – so that we are visible.

Meeting organized by the Save Our Suburbs Alliance – which includes groups like, Residents and Ratepayers Groups, Heritage & Special Character groups across Auckland

Please make this a priority.  Together we can stop this.

Let us know if you’re attending by emailing info@remueraheritage.org.nz by Thursday 28th July 2022 and seats can be booked for you.
