Built Heritage at Risk: The Shape of Things to Come
Tuesday, 29 June 2021
6.30pm
Remuera Library
Currently there are two main pieces of legislation which protect heritage special character homes, the Resource Management Act (RMA) 1991 and the Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Act 2014. Proposed changes to the RMA to improve housing supply will impact the heritage values of Remuera which are already being compromised by Auckland Council’s Unitary Plan (UP). The Council is considering its response to the National Policy Statement on Urban Development through a series of political workshops. One of the issues that will need to be addressed is how we respond to Special Character – at this stage, there is no political direction.
How will RMA and UP reforms impact our community?
Speaker: Bill Mackay, Senior Lecturer, School of Architecture and Planning at the University of Auckland. Bill is an active researcher and commentator on the built environment and urban design.
Light refreshments provided: Members $5; non-members $10.
