Historic heritage plaque for Arts & Craft house in Otahuri Crescent
Heritage New Zealand unveiled a plaque on the former Butler House in Otahuri Crescent, on the border of Remuera and Greenlane. The owner Valerie Muir had her house, a fine example of an Arts and Craft house designed by architect Llewellyn Stanley Piper for Harry Butler of the law firm Butler, White and Hanna (now Simpson Grierson), listed on Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Historic Heritage List in 2019.
Present were many friends and neighbours including Douglas Lloyd Jenkins, Heritage New Zealand’s Boris Bogdanovich, Conservation Adviser and Antony Phillips, Outreach Coordinator, both in the Northern Regional Office in Auckland. It’s not often that an owner lists their house and gets a plaque mounted on the house. It is a tribute to Valerie’s determination and perseverance that the listing happened and the plaque were installed.
