Heritage Counts! Auckland Council’s latest annual survey 2024

The 2024 edition of Auckland’s Heritage Counts is now out

The 2024 edition returns to a longer format, and is organised into seven sections:

• Introduction to heritage values and benefits
• What is the extent of Auckland’s heritage?
• How is Auckland’s heritage cared for?
• What makes Auckland’s Special Character special?
• Economic benefits
• Social benefits
• Environmental benefits.

There are summaries of research including:

• The benefits and uniqueness of Auckland’s special character (2024) – master’s student research
• Heritage as a marketing tool: cases from Auckland (2024) – master’s student research.

Auckland’s Heritage Counts aims to showcase the extent and variety of Auckland’s heritage and the social, economic, and environmental benefits Aucklanders gain from engaging with its heritage places.
