Always a tram in sight!

Always a Tram in Sight. MOTAT 2025.

James Duncan gave an enthralling talk about the history of the glory days of trams in Auckland.

James Duncan is the Tramway Project Manager at the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT), as well as a volunteer tram driver. His talk covered the growth of trams in Auckland and their decline in the 1950s due to competition from buses. The last tram no. 242 drove up and down Queen St on the 29th December 1956. His entertaining talk included a video of trams and Aucklanders in a very busy Queen St over the years.  James has another talk about the trams, which Remuera Heritage will book for 2026.
