WW1 Arthur Gordon Ballantine
Arthur Gordon Ballantine was born in 1892 in Auckland to John and Rachel Ballantine of St Vincent Avenue and then Avice St, Remuera.
He attended Remuera Primary School and worked for the N Z Railways. He enlisted in January 1915 and sailed as a Private in the 4th Reinforcements of the Auckland Infantry Battalion, Service No. 12/1880, arriving in Suez on 16 April 1915. He was wounded in action at Gallipoli with a shrapnel wound to the thigh on 9 August 1915 and died of his wounds on the Hospital Ship Georgian on 13 August 1915, age 23 years. He is buried in the East Mudros Military Cemetery on the island of Lemnos, Greece.
