Vandalism of the Remuera Railway Station
On the evening of 26 September 2024, three young vandals were caught throwing rocks at the railway station building. Nine windows and 2 information panels on the platform were broken.
The signal box was unharmed. Auckland Transport and One Rail were able to clean up the glass that night and board up the windows. A glazier has been able to source ‘heritage glass’ and the windows have all been repaired.
Of concern is a tunnel space under Market Road where there is lots of rubbish, rocks, concrete blocks and graffiti. People have been seen in it. It needs to be cleaned out and boarded up. It’s unclear who is responsible for this space – AT, OneRail, KiwiRail, Auckland Council all say “it’s not in our remit”. With help from the Orakei Local Board and David Seymour MP, Remuera Heritage has been contacted by Seymour’s electoral agent who is looking into it with the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA). We’ll keep you updated.
