Transformation of the former Newmarket Police Station at 58 Remuera Road
Formerly the Newmarket Police Station featuring the original 1909 cells, Newmarket Central is a 17-room boutique hotel, together with a refurbished 4-bedroom Edwardian villa known as the Sergeant’s House.
Located at 58 Remuera Road, the station was in use from 1909 until June 2021, when police operations for the area were relocated to Teed St. At the time of the closure in 2021 of the two-storey, concrete Sergeant’s House built in 1880, a brick station and a cellblock area, known as the “lock up”. The large brick building that dominated the corner was added in 1938.
Now both the sergeant’s house and the police cells and lockup have been adapted as a luxury hotel. Great adaptive reuse of an Auckland Council scheduled building 02545.
