In Memoriam: Bruce Culpan 1930-2021

Remuera Heritage notes with sadness the passing of Bruce Culpan, Remuera resident and pharmacist, on 24 August 2021.

Bruce was a keen rower and runner who won two silver medals in rowing at the Commonwealth Games in 1950 in Auckland and 1954 in Vancouver. Bruce was the owner of Remuera Pharmacy for nearly 50 years. He bought the pharmacy in 1956 having been an assistant pharmacist there since 1953. He sold the pharmacy to David Gaseltine in 2003, continuing a tradition of the locally owned pharmacy which has been in Remuera over 100 years since 1909. Bruce Culpan was highly regarded in Remuera and it was well known that he would go out of his way for anyone at any time.
