Barfoot and Thompson are proposing to demolish 367 Remuera Road – the L J Keys building – and to build a new 3-storey building plus basement, which will retain its existing retail use. It’s unclear what the other floors will include.
The L J Keys’ “Clonbern Store” is one of the oldest local commercial buildings still standing in Remuera. Leonard J Keys operated it for only 7 years, but it continued as a grocery store until the mid-1960s, with the 30 years from the mid-1930s as Marriott’s.
