Community bulb planting on Ōhinerau Mt Hobson Saturday 3rd May 2025 from 9.30am

Drifts of daffodils on the northern slopes of Ohinera Mt Hobson

Remuera Rotary and the Remuera Residents Association are holding a community bulb planting to restore the daffodils on the lower northern slope of Ohinerau Mt Hobson.

The daffodils were a war memorial to the boys who played on the slopes and then served in WWI and WW2. In later years, the bulbs were mown over by contractors, but now, with the support of the Tupuna Maunga Authority, 1800 bulbs are to be planted.

Volunteers from Remuera Heritage are welcome to come along from 9.30 am onwards to observe the planting in progress or to participate in it. Those wishing to participate should have suitable footwear and follow the instructions of the planting team leader. Disposable gloves will be provided, but gardeners may wish to bring their own gloves. Bulb planting trowels that can fit a 50mm drilled hole are supplied.

The 1st planting team will start at 9.30am to 11.30am, 2nd team from 11.30am to 1.30pm, 3rd team from 1-30pm to 3.30pm.

Everyone is welcome. No rsvp’s required.
