Remuera Railway Station and Signal Box restoration project 2025-2026

Remuera Railway Station 2. R Washer 2026

The scope of the restoration project is to strengthen and weatherproof the exteriors of the signal box and station building.

The scope of the restoration project by Auckland Transport is to strengthen and weatherproof the exterior of the signal box and station building, as it is in a very poor condition, including the removal, refurbishment, and reinstatement of all the timber-framed windows.

The station building itself is in slightly better condition, but will also be getting a full exterior refurbishment to ensure it is weathertight and in good condition. The contents and materials inside the building will be safely stored and protected during the works. The broken glass inside from past vandalism will be cleaned up. The interiors of the buildings are not being restored.

Auckland Transport is working with heritage architects Salmond Reed and Heritage New Zealand, where it is listed as a Category 1 Historic Place
