WW1 Arthur Alexander Ramsay (89500)

Arthur Alexander Ramsay was born in Auckland in 1898 to James Black and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Deborah Welsh Ramsay (nee Entrican). There were two other children Jeannie Entrican Ramsay and James Black Ramsay, Jnr.

Arthur Alexander Ramsay (89500) was sent for training as a Private with the New Zealand Training Unit at Featherston Training Camp, near Wellington. It was the New Zealand’s largest training camp where 60,000 men trained for military service during the First World War, between 1916 and 1918. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. Whilst there, he was taken ill with influenza which became broncho-pneumonia and died on 17 November 1918, aged 20.

Arthur is buried in Featherston Cemetery, Western Lake Road, Featherston, Grave 554.
